History

With a background in transportation planning and a successful tenure with Greiner, Inc. (now AECOM) and Tampa Downtown Partnership, Karen Simon decided to channel her expertise in public involvement and planning by starting her own consulting firm. In February 1996, she established Simon Resources, Inc. (SRI), a women-owned consulting firm in Tampa, Florida. With a focus on public involvement and outreach, SRI quickly became an essential participant in several large rail and roadway improvement projects in the Tampa Bay Region.

After many successful years in the industry, Karen opened an office in Winston Salem, North Carolina in 2004, where she made her home. After several years of traveling back and forth, Karen closed the Tampa office and now works solely in the NC office but continues to travel where her projects take her. Through COVID-19, Karen never wavered and implemented creative ways to keep the public informed and to receive their feedback. It was quite the challenge, but a learning experience that transformed the way people were informed, with some of those strategies still being used today!
